General Search Guides and Information Literacy Tutorials

New Zealand Libraries

Auckland City Libraries' Information Literacy Guide has used the Big6™ as the basis of a tutorial that takes users through the research process. They've used examples from NCEA Achievement standards through out. Also check out their Search Quizzes - test your own skills!
Christchurch City Libraries' has some short and easy to understand Database Search Tips. Their Mousercise tutorial is great for those new to computers and wanting practice using a mouse.
Palmerston North City Library has a useful general guide to electronic resources with notes on their advantages.
University of Canterbury Library's   Tutorials  include doing research and searching e-resources such as databases .

Victoria University of Wellington Library's Online Tutorial - Using Library Research Tools is another example of an information literacy tutorial that includes a Searching Databases module.
Wise - Waikato Information Skills Education from the University of Waikato Library offers self-paced interactive tutorials on search strategies, evaluating sources, internet searching and more.

International

Intute provide a series of subject based tutorials on online resources for tertiary students including their popular Internet Detective .
Stephanie Gerding maintains a page of links to online library tutorials and training resources.

Ohio Reference Excellence (ORE) was developed by the Ohio Library Council to "improve the quality of reference service." It includes guides to evaluation and search strategies.

SearchEngineWatch.com Watch maintains a list of online tutorials on Web searching and resources.

Product Based Tutorials and Helpsheets

EBSCO has a range of online tutorials (require Macromedia Flash) useful for EBSCO admin and a general introduction to EBSCO resources. Guides to use of Australia/NZ Reference Centre and MasterFile Premier can be accessed from the Help links on the database toolbars.  You can also search their Knowledge Base if you have any specific questions.

The EPIC Oxford University Press FAQ has loads has information about the products including fact sheets, help pages and training and marketing materials.

ProQuest Training  includes resources for ProQuest Science Journals such as a general  User Guide (PDF) Search Examples and Search Tips (near bottom of page). A Proquest Science Journals training powerpoint provides an overview and presentation of advanced features.

Encyclopaedia Britannica has structured training programmes  . See also their New Zealand site for links to fact sheets and other information.
Knowledge Basket provides a basic help page for New Zealand Index .

Marketing Your Resources

The EPIC Guide to getting the best out of your EPIC e-resources (282 Kb PDF) covers a  range of issues influencing uptake of resources. Digital templates of EPIC promotional material are also available.
Proquest has developed a Library Advocacy resource that includes an excellent 'Marketing Toolkit applicable to any online resource.
EBSCO has a Customer Success Center that includes marketing tools and useful examples of  ‘success stories’ for different sectors.
Gale has a Market your Library page that includes downloadable bookmarks, posters and advice.
The ORE Marketing tutorial was developed by the Ohio Library Council to introduce public library staff to the process of preparing a marketing plan. This tutorial provides the foundation skills for any library wanting to market itself better.

 Warren Cheetham's 2005 LIANZA Conference paper Thuringowa - A small public library answers the challenge provides some useful advice on innovative, low cost promotion.
