EPIC at the LIANZA Conference - win an iPad

Come along to the EPIC lunchtime session at the LIANZA Conference on Wednesday 1 December 12.30pm - 1.15pm and you will get to hear about what's happening at EPIC and what to expect in 2011. There will also be a chance to meet representatives from the EPIC vendors...but most importantly, you will have to chance to win our spot prize giveaway - an iPad - kindly donated by Oxford University Press.

 

EBSCO Webex training for EPIC Member Libraries

EBSCO Publishing have kindly put together a series of WebEx training sessions especially for EPIC libraries.

The sessions are:

EBSCOhost - a one hour overview of the EBSCOhost interface (this is the search interface for ANZ Reference Centre and MasterFILE Premier) and basic searching techniques including available search modes, use of limiters and expanders, review of the results page, as well as printing, emailing, saving, and citing results.
This would be a good introduction to database searching for all interested library staff.
 
There are 3 opportunities to attend this session:
Monday, 13 September - 1pm - 2pm
Tuesday, 14 September - 3pm - 4pm
Monday, 4 October - 1pm - 2pm
 
EBSCOadmin Basics - This one hour session is aimed at library database administrators, and covers basic features and functionality of EBSCOadmin, including Customising Services; Reports & Statistics; and Database Title lists.
If your library subscribes to the EBSCO products, I would recommend that if you are the person that looks after your electronic resource subscriptions and you have not used EBSCOadmin - then this session is a MUST!

Best Practice - Promoting & Marketing your Library Databases - This one hour session for librarians provides hints and tips on how to promote your library’s electronic resources. Recommended for any staff who are interested in tips on promoting the usage of online resources.

Bibliography of Published New Zealand Family Histories - new addition to the New Zealand Index

The Bibliography of Published New Zealand Family Histories is a listing of separately-published histories of families with descendants in New Zealand. All of the histories are indexed by author, title, keyword and family names; many are also indexed by founder names; country, county and town of origin; ship on which the family arrived in New Zealand; year of arrival; and region and place of main settlement in New Zealand. Some records also include the surnames of the families into which the first generation of descendants married. The bibliography is compiled by Tony Millett. There are 3350+ records in the collection, which has been added to the New Zealand Index. It is updated periodically by Tony.

Proquest's Customer Education & Training Specialist, Clare Bristow is going to be in Wellington on Monday 12 July to run some training sessions for EPIC member libraries on Ancestry Library Edition and PressDisplay.

NZ Schools' access to EPIC

18 May 2010

EPIC is pleased to announce that the Ministry of Education has renewed funding to provide access to all registered New Zealand schools to EPIC resources through to March 31, 2011. Access and further information is provided through Te Kete Ipurangi (TKI) website.
